| NC, Cong, NPP are all ridiculing the party with a difference | | BJP of U-turns | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 10: The BJP is not a party with a difference. It is a party of U-turns. The Congress, which was rejected by the Jammu electorate in the 2014 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, is ridiculing the BJP and accusing it of doing a complete U-turn on the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-like institute both in and outside the Legislature. Congress Legislature Party leader, Nawang Rigzin Jora, on Thursday used the floor of the assembly to accuse the BJP of not standing by its promise of establishing the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Jammu. Making an intervention at the beginning of the question hour in the Assembly here, Jora asked the government what happened to its promise of providing an AIIMS to Jammu. He also asked the BJP MLAs what about the promises made by them during the election campaign to empower Jammu.
"It is time the people of Jammu start evaluating the contribution of different parties, including the BJP and the Congress, towards Jammu's empowerment and development. It will take the BJP ages to be at par with the Congress," he said. He didn't spare even the Speaker, Kavinder Gupta of the BJP. "Sir, you too have come to Assembly on the promise of empowering Jammu, why don't you issue direction to the government to make a statement about the AIIMS to Jammu…Kashmir should get one, but the question is about AIIMS for Jammu announced by MoS in PMO Jitendra Singh," he said.
Outside the legislature, it was the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) which took on the BJP and urged the people of Jammu region to teach the BJP a lesson for its act of treachery and for transferring the sanctioned AIIMS to Kashmir. Besides, it lambasted the BJP-led NDA Government for giving a preferential treatment to the Kashmiri youth. The JKNPP and many political groups and youth organizations have criticized the latest decision of the Union Government to set up two Engineer Territorial Army units in Kashmir and only one in Jammu. As per the decision, 800 positions in the Territorial Army will go to Kashmir and Jammu will get only 400.
The Congress and the JKNPP are also accusing what they call the "power-hungry and unscrupulous" BJP of doing a complete U-turn on 73rd constitutional amendment and asking it to tender an unconditional apology for its double-speak. The Congress, which till the other day was on the defensive, has today gone on the offensive and tearing into the BJP on a daily basis. As for the JKNPP, it has been urging the State Governor to dismiss the government and arrange fresh elections in the state so that the BJP, which has "cheated the people of the state and the country" was shown its "rightful place".
Very interestingly, even the National Conference, which all through opposed the demand that 73rd amendment be adopted and implemented has also trained it gun at the BJP. It too on Thursday cornered the BJP in the assembly on this issue.
The point is that no one in Jammu and Kashmir is appreciating the BJP. On the contrary, almost everyone is criticizing the BJP and expressing the view that the BJP will become a story of the past in Jammu and Kashmir in case it continued to take U-turn. There is truth in what they say. And the truth is that the BJP has abdicated its authority in favour of its ally and become the representative of Kashmir in the state legislature as well as Jammu. |
