Jammu, Apr 10: It's a wake-up call for young IAS officer and son of the soil, Simrandeep Singh who is commanding the charge of Education Department in Jammu as Government Middle School Jallochak is about the collapse endangering the lives of students. The school situated barely few kilometers from the city is lying in a dilapidated condition posing risk to the lives of the students. The condition of the building is such that it might collapse anytime. Besides the school also lack several facilities including drinking water, toilet which shows the overall neglect of the school by the successive regimes and the School Education Department. Decades old building of the school is at its end as every time some part of the building succumbs to weather vagaries. "Quite often some part of the building especially cement from the roof comes down and we start praying, fearing the building might collapse," a 3rd standard student in this school said. "Owing to the dilapidated condition of the school building we usually have to sit in open to attend classes as it was not safe to attend classes inside, "Past couple of weeks were the worse to conduct school proceedings as it was raining more inside than out because of the dripping lintel of the building. The government schools in the division already have very low enrollment throughout the state and owing to such deteriorated condition of the school building locals are not willing to get their child admitted in the school fearing that such dilapidated structure could bring any fatal incident anytime. "Last time a big piece came of the lintel and fell inside but due to holiday there was no student sitting in the classroom. The deterioration of the school building was never been assessed by the authorities as a result of which the structure has not been renovated even once after it was established," said Yash Pal Sarpanch of the area. He while demanding immediate facelift of the school building said, "Our minister for education was talking about reforms in education sector but the school is on its verge to collapse anytime and needs immediate renovation and upliftment in the basic infrastructure, only then one could believe in reforms and other measures of better education". |
