Traffic Police fleecing drivers at Chanderkot | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 10: The drivers who ply their vehicles on National Highway 1 (NH-1) have accused traffic police of fleecing them unnecessarily at various spots right from Nagrota to Srinagar on the Jammu Srinagar National highway. The drivers as well as local residents along NH 1 have appealed Chief Minister to intervene and ensure installation of Close Circuit cameras (CCTV). "It is a routine for the traffic police cops to loot poor drivers whether they are taxi or truck drivers, even if all the drivers have all the documents the traffic cops keep harassing the drivers with the result their seems to be no accountability for these erring cops" said a taxi driver Sham Lal who owns a tavera taxi and keeps shuttling between Jammu and Srinagar. The drivers have accused traffic cops of looting drivers especially those posted near Chanderkot. The locals shopkeepers have also authenticated the fact that traffic cops keep harassing poor truck and taxi drivers near Chanderkot. "Only a few days back the traffic cops lead by their SP Ajay Koul thrashed me and smashed the window panes of my car while I raised my voice against the injustice during a traffic jam" said Qasim Ali Bhutto President of Shopkeepers association Chanderkot, I appeal Chief Minister to reign in into this organized mafia which are minting lakhs of rupees every day right from Nagrota to Srinagar. If the traffic police will not stop their illegal activities we would be forced to come on roads and the Government will be itself responsible for the consequences Qasim added , he further said that traffic SP should be shifted as soon as possible so that people especially drivers get a sigh of relief on the National Highway. |
