| Farmers hold demonstration, demand land | | |  Early Times Report
Kathua, Apr 16: The people who handed over their agriculture lands for construction of Jammu University Campus at Jaglote Kathua today staged protest demonstration in the premises of constructing building of University Campus and sought lands as per assured by state government in barter of lands.
Mukhtiar Ali who led the protest, demanded justice for dozens of poor farmers who bestowed their agricultural land in the interest of development in the area as government promised to allot another land.
While addressing to protesters, Ali said Government promised to allot land in barter of bestowed land but nothing has been done and the land that marked by government to allot has been grabbed by Land Mafia but Revenue officers despite having the knowledge of grabbing keep mum and act like spectators.
Ali said people are suffering as land mafia forbids the people to step in and administration neglects their grievances. He added people are hung in midst as they bestowed their land and allotted land is under the possession of land mafia that triggers sufferings of the poor villagers. When approached to Narendra Singh Bali, ADDC Kathua, he said government assured people to allot position land and assured that if there is any obstacle in the process Kathua administration will definitely intervene the matter to do justice with people who voluntarily bestowed their land for University Campus. He warned officers to take strict action if anyone found to misbehave with the public. He said officers are public servants and must have patience. |
