30% run by single teacher, 50% percent in rented buildings | Pathetic condition of Govt Schools in Doda | |
Bijay Charak Early Times Report Jammu, May 12: Even as the state government is mulling to provide laptops to school teachers to make learning interesting, more than 30 percent primary schools in district Doda are being run by a single teacher. Moreover, more than 50 percent schools are running in rented buildings and around 27 percent have no potable water. Reliable sources in education department informed Early Times that the condition of Government Primary Schools has worsened as around 229 government primary Schools are running with a single teacher in each school. "How it is possible for one teacher to take 25 classes a day. Castigating state government planning to provide laptops to school teachers' sources said that it was just wastage of money and time. If really state government is interested in improving education, it has to provide teachers. Shortage of teachers and lack of infrastructure was the main reason for dwindling number of students in government schools. Of 828 schools more than 34 have less than 10 children enrolled ", they said. The shortage of teachers forced the government to close down a number of schools a few years ago. As per the requirement it should have minimum 25 students. Sources said in ten education zone there are around 201 schools have no drinking water. Ravinder Singh a resident of Doda said that the education sector is getting focused attention of the government and exemplary initiatives have been taken in the recent past to ensure better education in the state. He further said that the statements being made minister are seems ineffective on ground. "Government has failed to provide basic facilities in Primary schools of Doda district. Chief Education Officer Doda could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
