Now Govt outsources Hari Niwas Palace | NC, Congress see threat to State's heritage sites | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Srinagar, May 12: Days after outsourcing sanitation of four important health resorts, Jammu and Kashmir Government has now decided to outsource Hari Niwas Palace Guest House (CM House) at Gupkar in Srinagar. Notice inviting bids for the outsourcing of operation, management and supervision of Hari Niwas Palace Guest House at Gupkar by the Directorate of Hospitality and Protocol department today appeared in leading dallies. "Government of Jammu and Kashmir accords high priority to tourism as key driver of state's economic development. Towards this end, efforts are being made to promote heritage and destination tourism by making available prime heritage government properties for the purpose of tourism promotion," reads the notice. Reacting to this development, Congress General Secretary, Hilal Ahmad Shah said, "Tourism can't be promoted by handing over heritage sites in the unsafe hands. Instead of outsourcing it government must take concrete steps for preserving it and should make Hospitality and Protocol department more significant in Jammu Kashmir tourism sector. He urged Chief Minister to revisit the decision of outsourcing Hari Niwas and prime tourist destinations. "What will be the role of Municipal committees and where will the employees working in these urban local bodies go," Shah said, when asked about the outsourcing of sanitation of prime tourist destination of Kashmir. National Conference leader and MLC Bashir Ahmad Veeri accused government of selling heritage sites and prime tourist destinations. "It exposes their capability, instead of outsourcing we should manage it ourselves," he said. Veeri said that Government has no other available option for collecting funds, "It is their frustration, firstly they told People of Kashmir that the only reason for joining hands with the BJP was financial support but now after receiving a cold response from the center they have started selling government properties for collecting the funds so that they can repair lanes and drains," he added. Earlier Government had decided to outsource the sanitation and allied services at four health resorts- Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Patnitop from the Housing and Urban Development department to Tourism Development Authorities |
