JUTA elections reflect VC's growing unpopularity within JU fraternity | | | Early Times Report jammu, May 12: Convincing victory of Prof. JPS Joorel over his nearest rival Prof. Avtar Singh Jasrotia in JUTA elections is a reflection of increasing unpopularity of the Vice Chancellor Prof. RD Sharma and his coterie amongst the faculty of the Jammu University and many see a tinge of poetic justice in the defeat of the candidate sponsored by the Vice Chancellor and his coterie which had literally taken over JUTA for several years now. Sources in the Jammu University divulge that Prof. Jasrotia enjoyed the patronage of the Vice Chancellor and former JUTA president Prof. Dalip Singh, whose tenure was marked by allegations of nepotism and vilification campaign against a group of teachers, most of whom were non locals. "During their tenure, undue favours were extended to the blue eyed while deserving were neglected and even targeted" said a Professor wishing not be named. "The interviews of professors were repeatedly deferred on the behest of the lobby led by Prof. Dalip Singh and the Vice Chancellor himself so as to favour their blue eyed" he added. Sources also divulged that undue favours were conferred on chosen few, neglecting the deserving who refused to tow their line. "Prof. Mansotra, head computer sciences was also made head of Information Technology; Prof. Rajnikant, Chief Coordinator Campuses, was also made director Academic Staff College and his wife, Prof. Rajni Dhingra , Head Deptt of Home Science was nominated to JU Council, the highest governing body of the University, neglecting many who were more desrving" averred a senior Professor. Narrating the account of undue favours extended to the coterie of the Vice Chancellor, another Professor disclosed, "After MIET was declared an autonomous institute, Prof. R D Sharma was nominated to its Council, after he became the VC, he accommodated Prof. Rajni Dhingra at his place. Not only this, he also nominated Prof. Dalip Singh to JU Council as JUTA representative despite the fact that his term had completed; this also delayed the JUTA elections". Meanwhile, University fraternity also smells a rat in the suspension of 6 scholars by the Vice Chancellor for six months. "JURSEA had been exposing the misdeeds of the JU administration and the VC himself and hence six of the scholars were suspended for six months to gag them" lamented another Professor. |
