Jammu, May 12: Army troops have recovered 103 weapons and 11,577 rounds of ammunition during various search operations in three districts of Chenab valley of Jammu region in last one year.
"In various operations from April 2014 to March 2015, the Delta force of the army responsible for the three districts of Ramban, Doda, and Kishtwar have recovered 66 AK-47/56/SLR assault rifles," Defense Spokesperson Lt Col Manish Mehta said. He said that during the same period, security forces also recovered 37 pistols. "Apart from 37 pistols, the security forces recovered 128 magazines (assorted), 11,577 rounds of ammunition (assorted), 167 UBGL and 187 items meant for sustenance of the terrorists," he said. Army, along with the police in the three districts of Ramban, Doda, and Kishtwar, has made a huge recovery which has served a severe blow to the nefarious designs of the terrorist organisations aimed at disturbing peace in the region. "Actionable intelligence has resulted in busting of cache of arms, ammunition and other war-like stores in remote and inaccessible areas. The terrain of the region is rugged, forested and contains number of hiding places and hideouts," he said. "Due to the effective responsiveness of the army by various goodwill programmes and projects in aid of the locals coupled with synergy with police and district administration, the Force has been able to make substantial recoveries," the spokesperson said. He said that the recovery of the cache is in continuation of the sustained efforts by the Delta Force of the army towards dismantling of terrorist infrastructure and support base of terrorists in Chenab Valley.
