Early Times Report

Jammu, May 12: Embarking upon the austerity measures to set right the system of health care in state, J&K Health Department headed by Lal Singh has issued final notices to about 300 senior doctors who are on absent from their duties for the last many years and are reportedly serving in private institutions in the country or in abroad.
As per notices these doctors will be served termination orders if failed to respond to the final notices within seven days.
The department, as per the information received, is planning to appoint unemployed doctors in place of these absentee doctors as most of the health institutions in all the districts including district hospitals are facing acute shortage of doctors especially in Kashmir valley.
While the step by the department is welcomed by the general people, the worst hit districts of Jammu region are seeing it again as a discriminatory aptitude while ignoring the Health of institutions in Rajouri district including district hospitals, where the acute shortage of doctors/consultants has badly hit the health services.
Not only district hospital, more than 90% health centres in the district (presently) have been running without Medical Officers and the paramedical staff feeling helpless in providing medical help to the patient.
One can imagine the health of these Health Centres from the details collected by The Early Times from Darhal, Kandi and Kalakot Health Blocks of the district where out of 93 sanctioned posts of Consultants / Medical Officers, 76 are lying vacant.
Health department had transferred some Consultants/ Medical Officers to district hospital and to sub district hospitals at Sunderbani and Nowshera.
Out of these 12 doctors 9 have not joined their duties at these health centres and remaining three after joining their duties have left the district after applying for long leaves. Why the Health Department not taking action against such doctors who either are not joining at the places of their new postings or have proceeded on long leaves for long leaves leaving behind poor people on the mercy of God.
According to health department sources Consultant Gynecologist Dr Sehnaz Bhatti had joined at district hospital on April 13 and proceeded on 5 days casual leave w.e.f April 14 and now she has extended her leave till she joins. When she will join at district hospital, God Knows ?
Dr Rakesh Roshan Consultant Pediatrics on April 9 joined at Community Health Centre at Darhal and since April 19 he is missing/on unauthorized absent.
Similarly Dr Sanjay Kumar has joined his duty at district hospital on April 11 & has proceeded on casual leave on April 28.
Those who have not joined at their new place of postings have been identified as Dr Vipin, consultant physician ,Dr Sudhakar Sharma, Consultant Anesthetics , Dr Nahida Kouser (MO) all transferred to district hospital, Dr Danish Ayub Khan, District Health Officer (Rajouri) , Dr Zulfikar (MO, Kalakot), Dr Parveen Jayoti (MO, Sunderbani), Dr BS Dutta (dentist,Nowshera) Dr Sandeep Bhardwaj ,MS Surgery (MO, Nowshera) and Dr P.
