Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, May 12: Government school teachers held a demonstration here today, demanding release of salaries of SSA and RMSA teachers/masters.
Hundreds of teachers working under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) protested outside the deputy commissioner's here and demanded release of their salaries.
The protesters said they work for nominal monthly honorarium for first seven years of their service before they are regularized. However, they alleged that they have not been paid salaries for last eight months.
President of Teacher's Forum District Baramulla Mohammad Rafiq Rather said that, "We once again gave memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Baramulla as regards the release of their salaries as soon as possible.
He said, "The salary of teachers is pending for more than eight months. Any further delay by government will provoke us to take extreme steps and they will be responsible for consequences."
"Why only teachers are made scapegoats for none of their fault. Why their salaries are not paid if they have worked for these months in their respective schools," they said.
Early times has learnt that, teachers across the north Kashmir staged protest at their respective tehsil and district headquarters against the government for not releasing their salaries from past several months.
Meanwhile, teachers from various zones of Baramulla district including Zone Chandoosa, Wagoora, Fatehgrah, Singhpora, Sopore, Tangmarag and Pattan staged protest against the government for not releasing their salaries from last eight months.
The protesters raised slogans -- Mehnat Humari Loout Tumhari Nahi Chaleg, Nahi Chalegi -- and carried placards.
