| BJP, PDP ridicule Cong statement on coalition | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 30: Senior leaders of the state unit of the BJP have alleged that the Congress and the National Conference leaders were trying to widen the wedge between the PDP and the BJP so that the survival of the coalition Government was endangered. BJP leaders including Ashok Khajuria and Chander Mohan cited the latest statement of senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad wherein he predicted short life of the coalition government, as an example. Khajuria and Chander Mohan described Azad's statement nothing but his frustration. Khajuria said that there were certain areas where the PDP and the BJP differed in their outlook and perception but the two were committed to provide stable and corruption free Government. They said that the PDP and the BJP leadership would respect the mandate given to them by the people in the Assembly elections. They said the Congress and the National Conference have fears that if the PDP-BJP coalition Government survived for full six years, they would be decimated in the state. PDP leader Nizam-ud-Din Bhat said that in any alliance or coalition Government differences are bound to crop up. Were there no differences between the Congress and the NC when the two were in power for six years between 2008 and 2014 ? He said that if despite differences the Congress and the NC complete six years why should not the BJP and the PDP survive for six years ? He said that Ghulam Nabi Azad's statement on the future of the coalition Government is nothing but a part of his wishful thinking. However, the Congress and the NC leaders are of the view that despite severe differences between the PDP and the BJP on various issues concerning the people of Jammu and Kashmir the two were trying to carry on in order to avert a mid-term Assembly poll. The NC and the Congress leaders believe that once fresh elections were held in the state would be mauled. The two may not be able to repeat even the performance which they had staged in 2008 elections. The Congress leaders said that the BJP-PDP coalition was an alliance of compulsion and not convenience. |
