SRINAGAR, May 30: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that stern action would be taken against the militants who have been carrying out attack on telecom companies in the Sopore area of North Kashmir leading to a virtual communication breakdown in the area.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the International Buyer-Seller Meet here, Mufti said that attacks on telecom employees cannot be a permanent feature adding that nobody would be allowed to take the law in his own hands. He assured that the communication service would be restored in the Sopore area very soon.
"People want to see peace in the Kashmir valley and attacks like the one being carried out on telecommunication sector would never deter people from aspiring for a dignified life. Such attacks cannot be a permanent feature and they would come to an end soon. Let me make it clear that communication services would be restored to the full soon in the affected areas," said the chief minister.
Referring to the waving of the Pakistani flags in different parts of Kashmir valley, Mufti said that such incidents are blown out of proportions by the media. He said the state government is busy in providing relief to the flood affected people and the flag waving incidents would not divert their attention in this regard.
"People have suffered immensely due to the devastating flood of 2014 and they need to be provided the much needed relief. We are on the job and our focus cannot be diverted due to the incidents wherein Pakistani flags are waved. The issue is not a serious one and I think that such things are blown out of proportions by the media," said the chief minister.
Mufti said that the Peoples Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janta Party government in the state has set some targets adding that these would be achieved in due course of time. He said that government would not like to enter into any controversy on issues like revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the state.
"It is our endeavour to provide a good government to the people so that their daily problems are solved. It is prudent not to touch tricky issues and the government should be allowed to do its work without any fuss. People want to live with dignity and same is possible when the people at helm are allowed to work without any controversies," said the chief minister.
