Anarchy prevails in CUJ-III | Faulty planning, no road connectivity, no water features of new campus at Bagla | |
Early Times Report Jammu, May 30: Around six departments of Central University of Jammu, presently running at temporary block Sainik Colony, Jammu are likely to be shifted at permanent block at Bagla (Samba) before new session commences but the new block is without water and proper road connectivity. Sources told Early Times that despite CUJ administration spending huge amount on developing infrastructure there is no arrangement of water and road connectivity, from national highway to campus. "With inadequate space for students after new admissions, around six departments will be shifted to main campus by July. Inadequacy of perennial water supply in nearby locations is likely to cost the university heavily as there is no ground water upto 400 meters. As per union urban ministry assessment, 135 liters of water are required for an individual per day, total current requirement of water per month is 25 lakh liters" they said, adding that university first constructed a reservoir worth Rs 45 lakh and then started searching for water. "Now that there is no water in the nearby locations the university has to arrange water through takers and other means for which university will have to pay a hefty amount," sources claimed, adding that the issue was also raised by the site search committee of Government of India, but at that time authorities of University had assured that the arrangement would be made before shifting of the campus. "Even some members expressed dismay over the same, but till date no progress has been made in this regard except that there is no ground water", they regretted. Sources further said that the road connectivity which was primary need, was also overlooked. "Road connectivity is in bad shape from the national highway to campus and there is an urgent need to start widening work of the existing road. The double lanning and metaling of the existing road require huge funds and till date no progress has been made in this regard too", they said. Sources further said university shifted its administrative block, to main campus in semi-furnished building but during minor rainfall led to the closure of the university as road leading towards campus got waterlogged. |
