CM for proper development of brand Kashmir in order to keep fake products at bay | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 30: Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today asked the Industries and Commerce department to develop a proper brand for the Kashmiri handmade products so that the fake products are shown exit from the market both at the national and international level. Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the 6th International Buyer-Seller meet here, Mufti said that fake products have brought a bad name to the original Kashmiri products especially shawls and carpets. He asked the leading exporters to fix prices of the original products so that the buyer does not feel that he has paid more for the product. "Proper patenting of the original products would go a long way in restoring the glory of original products being made in Kashmir. A proper mechanism needs to be developed in this regard. In the other places of globe there is a price tag for every article and same needs to be applied here as well. This would remove the doubts in mind of the intending buyers and they would feel relieved that they have not been cheated," said the chief minister. Mufti said that close coordination should be established between the business communities of Kashmir and Jammu divisions. He said that this would lead to holistic development of the artisan community. He exuded confidence that international buyer-seller meet would go a long way in establishing long term relationships and that such an event can become a turning point in the real economic revival in the state. The chief minister said that state government is framing a new Industrial Policy which will primarily focus on investment and employment generation without compromising on environment and ecology. Complimenting the artisans for making such exquisite handicraft and handloom items he described these sectors as vital for development of economy of the State. Mufti said that a Raw Material Bank for Pashmina has already been set up for Kashmir-based artisans and micro-credit to artisans and weavers through Artisan & Weaver Credit Card Schemes will continue. He said the government has also announced a special scheme for Pashmina in Ladakh and for development of other crafts in the State. The Chief Minister also urged the business fraternity to invest in hi-tech industries like Information Technology, Electronics and Food Processing, which have a very good potential for employment generation and are 'Thrust industries' in the State Industrial Policy. Calling upon dovetailing handicraft industry with tourism Mufti said it will provide a window of opportunity to the handicraft sector to sell genuine quality products to high-spending visitors to the State. He said that the new Industrial Policy will address the problems faced by the Handicraft and Handloom sectors so that they attain vibrancy in national and international markets. Stressing upon laying a sound edifice for good governance and transparent administration in the State, the Chief Minister said 'Ease of Doing Business' will be accorded highest priority and e-Governance will be introduced to facilitate industrialists so that they are able to get their jobs done in real time. Laying stress on promotion of industrially backward areas in the state, Mufti said the government will be creating a Land Bank for establishment of additional Industrial Estates and developing Industrial Growth Centres, on the pattern of Samba and Lassipora. He also assured that greater incentives will be provided for development of industry in the rural and remote areas of the State. In his address, President, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad said that 70 importers of 21 countries are taking part in the three day international buyer-seller meet. He said that importers from countries like United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Turkey, Vietnam, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Dubai, Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Columbia, Jeddah, Greece, Jordan, Indonesia, Tunisia, Norway, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland are taking part in the programme.
