Pak not to emulate Myanmar's support to Indian anti-insurgency operation ?
6/11/2015 10:09:47 PM
If a neighbouring country provides assistance a nation tormented by terror could tackle militancy in a short period.Lack of cooperation from a neighbouring country and support to terror add to the aches of other nation. This is what has been happening in India which has been plagued by a prolonged spell of terror that emanates from the soil of Pakistan. Over the years terrorists, especially the Maoists, have eliminated scores of Indian Army personnel and other paramilitary forces ambushes or in IED explosions. The lat est incident has been reported in forest belt of Manipur where 18 Indian soldiers were killed in one major IED explosion which damaged the Army convoy.Several other soldiers were wounded. What used to compound and complicate the anti-insurgency operations being launched by the Indian security forces was that soon after striking against the Army or the paramilitary forces or the civilians these terrorists would cross over to Myanmar by infiltrating through the porous border. There has been no arrangement for carrying out border patrolling and the two countries have yet to finalise an agreement on raising a barbed wire fence for checking infiltration of terrorists.
This time the Army authorities in New Delhi received full backing from Prime Minister,Narendra Modi, who had t aken up the issue of cross border terror with Myanmar Government. The result was that Myanmar Government order its troops to cooperate with the Indian forces engaged in eliminating terrorists.Special forces of the Army have launched a counter-strike on two groups of North-East insurgents along the India-Myanmar border, inflicting "significant casualties" on them. Initial reports suggest that around 60 insurgents belonging to at least four groups, which have formed an umbrella organisation, were killed in the operations. Though the Army is not saying it officially, senior functionaries maintained the Army's 21 Para Special Forces, trained in jungle warfare and commando tactics, made a cross-border raid on two camps of insurgents in neighbouring Myanmar. These camps are reportedly located around 2 km inside Myanmar and are hideouts for insurgent groups that have taken refuge in that country.
Virtually setting the tone for upscaling the offensive as when insurgents launched any attack, Additional Director General Military Operations Major General Ranbir Singh said, "Any threat to our security, safety and national integrity will meet a firm response."IAF's MI-17-V5 helicopters undertook sorties over the area for high-resolution photography and exact location and topography of the camps last evening. The Army targeted two camps-one opposite Nagaland and another opposite Manipur
However, till date New Delhi has not been able to receive any cooperation from Islamabad.Even when India has been repeatedly telling Pakistan that its soil was being used foexporting terror to India Islamabad took hardly any step for preventing militants from crossing into Jammu and Kashmir. Though Pakistan itself has been plagued by the rise of terror and the Army, police and paramilitary forces in Pakistan have been on the receiving end still India's plea for launching joint operations against militants has not evoked ny response from Islamabad. There is a vital differ ence between Myanmar and Pakistan. While Myanmar does not impart ar ms training to NE insurgents in some training camps Pakist n has set up over 42 training camps for imparting arms training to militants who were later pushed into Jammu and Kashmir. That difference has motivated Myanmar Government to allow the Indian troops to launch anti-insurgency operations inside the border belt of Myanmar.Had not Myanmar cooperated a time was bound to come when insurgents could easily target troops and other Government officials and civilians in Myanmar. The way Myanmar Government lent assistance to to the Indian security forces reflects the need for cooperation among various nations committed to wage a war against terror. It is time for Pakistan to learn a lesson or two from the latest experiment Indian carried out inside the border belt of Myanmar.
