Administration wakes up to menace of mass copying at IGNOU examination centres | Teams to pay surprise visits to far off centres | | Asif Iqbal Naik

Kishtwar, June 11: In response to the order passed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar having the powers of Additional District Magistrate, team of Padder police lead by SDPO along with Tehsildar today conducted the surprise visit of IGNOU center situated inside Higher Secondary School Gulabgarh and scrutinized the records of the candidates. As per the details available with "Early Times", team of Police and administration visited the IGNOU center Padder at around 2 PM today to ensure free and fair examination, and to thwart an attempt of menace of mass copying. SDPO and Tehsildar scrutinized the records of the students appearing in the examination which is aimed to check the reports of impersonation of candidates. Following reports of mass copying, the administration last week deputed Dr. Ashiq Hussain, senior professor of Degree College Kishtwar to Chatroo for supervision of IGNOU examination centre. According to the sources, each students paid Rs. 3000 to Rs. 5000/ per paper for open copying in examination held in nearly one dozen IGNOU centres at Kishtwar, Doda, Ghat, Bhaderwah, Padder, Chatroo, Kilotran, Gandow and at other places. As per the investigation conducted by the Early Times, students appearing in Semester exams paid Rs. 2000/3000 per paper, while the students appearing in year based subject course paper paid Rs 5000-6000 per paper as a result of which the IGNOU center owners have reportedly made huge money. The investigation further relieves that beside few students, large number of government employees particularly ReT teachers are appearing in IGNOU examination for better percentage so as to get benefits at the time of regularization of services. The sources said that IGNOU examination system is working in the remote areas of the state as a nexus having deep roots within the university setup. As already reported by "Early Times" Secondary School and Higher Secondary School examination in Kishtwar and Doda District are considered as money spinning machines for some lecturers, teachers and board officials and as per the report mass copying in Kishtwar and Doda district has become an industry that earns more than Rs 5 Cr every year by charging hefty amounts from students particularly in remote areas where there is no road and communication connectivity. In this regard "Early Times" also carried detail report on promotion of mass copying in Doda and Bhaderwah based on the sting operation carried out inside the examination center, but even after the lapse of several years, the authorities failed to act against promoters of mass copying. Reacting to the allegation, ADC Kishtwar Mohammad Hanief Malik on 29-05-2015 ordered immediate constitution of various teams to be headed by Chief Education Officer Kishtwar to ensure that mass copying was not facilitated in IGNOU centres. "It has been reported that examination conducted at IGNOU centers in respect of District Kishtwar like Chatroo, Kishtwar, Padder & Drabshalla centers is often not conducted in free and fair manner and the candidates are often allowed in the centers with incriminating study material without check or either before commencement of the examination or during the examination" read ADC's Order. ADC Kishtwar also directed SP Kishtwar to ensure fool proof security in and around IGNOU examination centers. |
