Where is new transfer policy: teachers to Edu Minister | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report Srinagar, June 11: Female teachers working in government schools of the Valley say that the delay in announcing the transfer policy is taking a toll with marriages of many of them on the brink of break up. Scores of teachers posted prior to their marriages in far off areas of the state were hoping that Education Minister Naeem Akhtar Andrabi would listen to their woes and end their suffering. But instead of approving a transfer policy for teachers while keeping in view the hardships married female teachers face, the minister issued a new diktat in the name of 'rationalization'. In the midterm ongoing session, female teachers were transferred en-masse to far off places irrespective of their marital status. "How can a female teacher who is married and has little kids could leave for her place of posting that is 50 km from her home? We had applied for the district cadre post but why is the government silent over the plight of those teachers who are married outside their districts," one of the aggrieved teachers said. Many believe that the 'unnatural' measures taken by the Education department in transferring teachers to far-off places could lead to total chaos in the education sector. "How could a female teacher who could not go for a rented accommodation due to her marriage, travel 100 km a day? Then we expect her to teach students with full concentration. It is humanly not possible," noted educationist G.A. Gulzar said. Earlier the government claimed that inter-district transfer would be allowed in case a woman is married in another district. It also claimed that the teachers who have disabled children would be posted at places they find convenient. The government had admitted that in most of the cases, it was seen that teachers especially women would come late or leave schools early because of difficulties in reaching to their place of postings. The government had claimed that it was basically redesigning the Education department so that people prefer to admit their wards in government schools instead of private ones. The government had also claimed that it was adopting a soft approach towards the teachers who will be granted research projects by institutions such as University Grants Commission. |
