Nirmal is a 'saner voice', says a K commentator | Blistering attack on BJP | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 11: On June 10, a very interesting development took place. A Kashmir-based self-style champion of human rights, supporter of Kashmiri separatists, commentator and opinion maker on Wednesday condemned the BJP-led NDA government at the centre and accused it of not allowing Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed to implement the agenda of alliance. "Despite having intense discussions prior to government formation there was inking of the much touted 'Agenda of Alliance', which was more about tackling the political sensitivities rather than having a grand idea of development. As Mufti himself affirmed that it was the meeting of North and South Poles thereby emphasizing the differences in their ideologies. They had narrowed down to an acceptable language on critical issues. However, from day one BJP has disregarded its own words, proving the critics of the coalition right. Not only has the central leadership of BJP snubbed PDP on more than one occasion but the state leaders have also made them uncomfortable at a bigger level. Recently, Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh, who happens to be the Member of Parliament from Udhampur, was supposed to talk about the performance of one year of Narendra Modi led government, but he preferred to speak on host of issues with the potential to create more trouble in the state. From advocating that Amarnath Yatra could be run round the year to setting of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jammu first, he did everything to further the wedge between Kashmir and Jammu," said he. However, he praised BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, and said he was the only saner voice in the BJP who appreciates the ground realities in the state and dismisses the waving of Pakistani flags in Kashmir as a non-issue. "However, after a long time a saner voice emerged in BJP when Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh sought to play down the issue of waving flags in Srinagar and Jammu…In his press conference Dr Singh said that there was nothing new. But the fact is that it is a new reality in Jammu that has risen with BJP ruling both in New Delhi and in Srinagar. But Dr Nirmal Singh's statement of accepting the flag waving as a reality only came after a new dynamic in politics of Jammu became visible". It is perhaps for the first time that any Kashmiri commentator has commended some Jammu-based leader, especially a BJP leader. The grouse of the commentator was that the BJP-led NDA Government at the centre was preventing the Chief Minister from "tackling the political sensitivities" of Kashmiris (in this case separatist and sectarian sensitivities). All this speaks for itself. |
