Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 11 : International Exhibition of cartoons a tribute to RK Laxman was organized in Lawrence Public School today wherein Eighty-five creations of top cartoonists were under display. The exhibition was inaugurated by Chairman, Lawrence Public School, Wg Cdr M.M Joshi along with noted cartoonist Chander Shekhar. Students from various classes witnessed the exhibition and asked questions about the cartoons from the noted cartoonist.
Noted cartoonist Chander Shekhar informed the students that R K Laxman who was considered as one of the world's greatest cartoonists, was an institution in himself, indisputably the uncrowned conscience keeper of the nation. No politician or minister, however high or mighty, escaped his pointed satire, conveyed through a few deft strokes of his brush, especially if they committed an act of impropriety or indiscretion. Laxman's common man, who graced the front pages of The Times of India for more than five decades, under "You Said It" acquired an iconic stature of its own. These pocket cartoons not only conveyed the pulse of a nation, but also unfailingly delivered powerful messages. The cartoonists whose works were under displayed in the exhibition included, Rasipuram Krishnaswami Laxman (R.K.Laxman), Ashok Adepal (Ahmadabad), Ajit Narayan (Kerala), Ahmed Samir Farid (Egypt), Arifur Rehman (Bangladesh), Bashir Ahmed Bashir (J&K), Bhoopathi Tuniki (Telangaana), Bharat Jagtap (Karnataka), Chander Shekhar (J&K), Dr. Aslam Shaikh (Maharashtra), Hari Krishna (Karnataka), Jasbir Virk (Punjab), Jayaraj Vellur (Andra Pradesh), Khalil Zitouni (Algeria), Kathiravan (Tamil Nadu), Kaak (Delhi), Mikail Aziz (West Bengal), Mehboob Raja (Jharkhand), Manoj Chopra (J&K), Manoj Kureel (Delhi), Madhusudan Kr.
