While touring to various north Kashmir areas on Thursday to review the situation, the top police brass told reporters that atleast 40 militants are active in the north Kashmir region and security forces continue to remain on tenterhooks to foil any such attempt that could stir peace in Valley. Commenting over the recent militant attacks in Sopore area, DGP said that police have got vital leads and that the tele-communication networks across valley have been restored at large. "Very soon, the Police will make the facts public before press. We have restored the communications at large and have made several arrests in this regard also. If at any place, a mobile tower owner or any other outlet feels any threat, police will immediately provide security cover to that place or a person and state police will ensure that no communication breakdown is witnessed in Kashmir," he said. Nullifying the reports of youth joining the militant groups in valley, the police chief maintained that the reports are not worrisome as same is merely a propaganda launched by some nefarious elements in the state. "Earlier there were reports of some 18 to 20 youth joining the militant ranks. Amongst them, most have returned to their homes. Reports claiming the youth joining militancy are not true indeed," DGP said. When asked whether police will allow the seminar being conducted by the senior separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani on June 14, the DGP K Rajindra briefly maintained the decision has to be taken by the civil administration and not by the police. "It is the civil administration that has to take final call over the issue," he added Later, DGP, flanked by several other senior police officials visited the residence of MLA Kupwara to condole the demise of his son who met the fatal road accident in recent past and expressed his solidarity and extended his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family. |
