| Assault bid foiled: Notorious cop among two criminals held with two imported weapons | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 11: Police today claimed to have foiled a murderous assault with the arrest of two persons including a notorious criminal and cop besides recovering one imported pistol and one imported revolver along with 35 rounds in Gujjar Nagar area. Meanwhile manhunt has been launched to nab absconding driver of vehicle used in for stalking their prey.
Police source said, "Police identified the arrested as Mohiteshwar Singh alias Munna s/o Ved Parkash of Shakti Nagar and Jahangir s/o Haider Ali of Janipur is a constable of telecom wing of JKP and was presently as wireless operator in Chinore police post. Sharing details police sources said that Police recovered a Belgium made revolver from the possession of Jahangir while a Chinese pistol from the possession of Munna.
Police claimed that with the arrest of the duo most of links of the criminals would be exposed soon as Munna was a notorious criminal and was remained detain under Public Safety Act (PSA).
Police sources said that the catch was made following revelations from one Riaz Ahmed son of Majid Ahmed of Gujjar Nagar who is a contractor and stated when he was going to home two persons started following him. "As per Riaz the duo had tried to intercept him but their attempt turned futile due to public movement, police sources said.
"Police post in-charge Mohammad Rashid who along with other cops was on naka duty at Gujjar Nagar intercepted the Riaz who revealed that two persons in a Ritz car which is without registration number plate following him with weapons, police sources said.
"After Riaz's revelations, SI Rashid started following the duo which also pointed guns on the cops but the cops overpowered them and immediately shifted them to Police Post Gujjar Nagar while the driver who was driving Ritz car managed to escape from the spot, police sources said adding, "during frisking police recovered a pistol and a revolver (both imported) along with 35 rounds of different bores."
"They had enmity with the Riaz following which they allegedly conspired to eliminate him but their biad was foiled by the alert police," police said, adding that the questioning of both the persons is on.
Meanwhile Police said that questioning of the arrested has been started to ascertain the identity of their associates and how they manage imported weapons.
Police further said that the cop claimed that the revolver he possessed is licensed and police have launched investigation to check the authenticity of the license of Jahangir.
Meanwhile a case under FIR number 35/ 2015 under sections 307, 341, 34 of RPC and 3/25 Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Peer Mitha while the investigation has been taken up by SHO Peer Mitha SDPO North Parbeet Singh SP North SK Chouhan. Officiating Sr Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Rajiv Pandey when contacted told that that the Munna is a notorious criminal who remained involved in series of criminal activities and extortion cases. He further said that investigation to ascertain the reasons why the duo was following the Riaz is on and will be shared with media at appropriate time. |
