Bukhari calls for activating Grievance Redressel Mechanism for Kashmiri migrants

SRINAGAR, June 11: Minister for Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Relief & Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari has reiterated the commitment of the Government to address the grievances of Kashmiri migrants related to relief and other basic facilities.
The Minister stated this while chairing a meeting to discuss the issues concerning Kashmiri migrants, here today.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary Relief & Rehabilitation Dheeraj Gupta, Relief Commissioner, J&K, Special Secretary Relief & Rehabilitation, besides other senior officers.
During the meeting, the Minister also took stock of the functioning of the Department. With regard to accommodation facilities available at the Purkhoo Camp, Jammu, the Minister said that conversion of existing one-room tenements into two-room sets shall be examined so that better living conditions are provided to the inhabitants of the camp.
To ensure prompt redressal of the grievances of Kashmiri migrants, the Minister desired that the Grievance Rederssal Cell established in the Relief & Rehabilitation Department be activated on priority by providing adequate staff.
The Minister reviewed the progress of filling up of posts for the Kashmiri Migrants under the PM's Package for their return and rehabilitation. He stressed for early filling up of about 600 vacancies. The Minister said that additional 3000 vacancies have also been sanctioned under the Return & Rehabilitation package, details regarding which shall be worked in consultation with the line departments and the process to fill them up be initiated on priority.
During the meeting the Relief Commissioner also highlighted the issue of inadequate engineering support staff with the department to carry out its works programme and regular maintenance and repairs. The Minister desired that the proposal for creating an independent engineering division may be examined on priority.
