Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 2: Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh today ruled out revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from the state and said the situation is not conducive at moment for revocation of this Act from Jammu & Kashmir. Talking to media persons here, the Union Home Minister said that there is no plan of the central government to hold talks with the separatist leadership in Kashmir. He said talks are possible only when the separatists abjure violence and come forward to have meaningful dialogue with the Government of India. "I wish and pray that the situation across the country is such that there is no need for Acts like AFSPA. As on date the situation is not right to revoke the Act from Jammu & Kashmir. Once the situation turns favourable we would not waste any opportunity to revoke the Act, but until then the Act is here to stay," said Rajnath. The Union Home Minister said that since separatist leadership resorts to violent means in making their point heard there is no justification in holding dialogue. He asked the separatist leaders to say good-bye to violence and come forward for dialogue with Government of India so that there is mitigation of sufferings of people of state. Referring to Pakistan, Rajnath said that India is committed to maintain cordial and friendly relations with Pakistan and other neighbouring countries. He expressed the hope that Pakistan would respond positively to the hand of friendship extended by India. He quoted former Prime Minister in this regard and said that you can change your friends but not your neighbours. The Union Home Minister reiterated the central government's commitment to extend all support and assistance to the victims of September 2014 flood. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to see Jammu & Kashmir as fully rehabilitated and prosperous state. He said that more money would be sanctioned for the flood hit people only when the already allocated funds are spent in the right manner. "I would like to put it on record that we would provide all kind of help to the people affected by the devastating flood of September 2014. We cannot provide all the money in one go and same can be given in different installments. We want the money to be given to the real beneficiaries and not fake ones. There would be no shortage of money but proper utilization of the money is very important," said Rajnath. The Union Home Minister expressed satisfaction over the security and other arrangements put in place by the state government and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) for the smooth and peaceful conduct of annual Amarnath Yatra which began today. He visited the holy cave shrine early this morning to take stock of the security situation and also inspected arrangements for the smooth conduct of Yatra. "I am fully satisfied with the arrangements put in place by the state government for the Yatra. I talked to some of the pilgrims and they expressed happiness over befitting arrangements and facilitation mechanism for them," said Rajnath. He paid obeisance at the cave shrine and had darshan of Shiv Lingam. The Union Home Minister reiterated his commitment to extend all support, assistance and encouragement to the Jammu & Kashmir government to make the Amarnath Yatra safer, secure and eco-friendly. He complimented the State Government for taking excellent measures for the comfort of pilgrims. Union Home Minister also met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan in Srinagar and had extensive discussions about issues relating to external and internal security management. They also discussed matters relating to relief and rehabilitation of the flood victims and the arrangements for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. Before leaving for Delhi, Shri Rajnath Singh visited the Dargah Hazratbal Shrine and prayed for the peace and prosperity of the State. |
