To please him, PHQ sending IGP to London on official assignment | Unhappy over his recent transfer to a "less" important post, he had applied for central deputation | | ET Report jammu, July 2: An Inspector General of Police (IGP), who was unhappy over his transfer to a less important post in February last and had applied for central deputation, is being sent by the police headquarters to London to take part in an official function. The move is aimed at keeping him in good humour and prevent him from proceeding on central deputation, according to official sources. Sources said the ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had, in a communication sent to the state home department, asked it to send one senior police officer to London to take part in an official function there. In turn, the state home department brought the matter to the notice of police headquarters (PHQ). The PHQ first thought of sending another officer to London but later changed its mind and forwarded the name of the IGP, a 1992 batch IPS officer, to MHA which had given its approval. The IGP is known for his honesty and integrity in state police circles. He has served in various capacities in the state police administration. As additional SP (south), Jammu, he had developed the intelligence to trace a lady doctor, who was then abducted by two youth on gun point from a minibus at Gandhi Nagar. The doctor was traced in a mosque in New Delhi, where the kidnappers had kept her. He was widely appreciated for his this achievement. When he was ASP (south), all used to praise him for his honesty, simplicity and integrity. He had not changed his torn pant of uniform but had got it repaired. So honest is he that he would not accept a cup of tea from anyone as ASP (south). That time he lived in a small quarter inside the Gandhi Nagar police station complex along with his wife and children. He would never hesitate from calling a spade a spade. He was not happy with his transfer and had applied for the central deputation. Though he used all his connections in MHA for a posting in New Delhi, he could not get it as there was at present no vacancy available there, sources said. The two-day function in London would be held on July 13 and 14. He was likely to leave for the function in a week or so, sources informed. |
