Inquiry against Taj; Immunity to minister: It pays to be in ruling dispensation! | Why Govt failed to retrieve excess land from Educational Trust? | | Abodh Sharma ET Report jammu, July 2: Government's initiative to start an inquiry against senior Congress leader and former Minister, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, for encroachment of the forest land at Sedow' in South Kashmir's Shopian smells of bias and lack of objectivity as senior Minister in the present regime continues to evade action and enjoy political immunity despite making huge encroachments on state land in Kathua. While Taj has reportedly encroached upon state and forest land adjoining his ancestral property, for which the Revenue and Forest authorities have been asked to get the demarcation done and file a factual report, An educational trust owned by the family of a senior Minister in the incumbent regime has land measuring 316 Kanals and 17 Marlas situated at Village Karandi Khurd, Tehsil Hiranagar District Kathua contrary to the ceiling prescribed under Section 2(1) read with Section 14 of J&K Agrarian Reforms Act, 1976. Then Commissioner of Vigilance on April 24, 2006 had recommended to the government that land around 92 kanals in possession with the present minister should be restored to the state. A petition was also filed against large scale encroachments of state land by politicians and police officers following which a Division Bench of State High Court had taken serious note of General Administration Department failing to take any action against the then MP who is now a Minister. Many believe that the minister shifted his loyalty with the sole objective of saving his skin and keep his illegal encroachments on state land under cover. |
