Who cares: Commercial drivers continue to take U-Turn ,violating 'traffic norms'
7/3/2015 12:06:36 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 2: From time to time the state traffic police department has organized seminars to highlight road safety measures to educate drivers about the traffic signs and their importance but all went in vain as the commercial drivers were not only rampantly violating traffic norms but also creating hazards to the other commuters.
It appears the drivers of commercial vehicles especially the mini buses do not pay heed to the precautions from traffic police department and ignore the same as they know they (Traffic Police) fail to take action against them reasons better known to them.
Every day the drivers of commercial vehicles can be seen violating traffic rules but seldom they are issued challans or their vehicles are seized for breaking the rules and endangering the lives of commuters.
A picture attached with the story clearly show a bus of a private transport company taking a U-turn in front of the MLA hostel and despite presence of traffic police cops at the Indira Chowk and near MLA hostel these errant drivers get away easily without getting penalised.
Secondly, the drivers of these commercial vehicles also use fly over near Health department office as make shift bus stop to drop pilgrims and other passengers coming via Katra and Udhampur. This practice has often led to minor accidents and invite trouble for pedestrians as high speed commercial vehicles come to a halt abruptly on the roadside without signalling or using indicators.
Besides this, the mini bus drivers and some bikers in winter capital seem to feel egotistical and proud to jump the traffic light. The height of illogical and nonsense could be seen when these drivers skip a red light and zoom their making others to notice them that they have done something worth without equal but they fail to understand their one jump on a red light not only pose danger to others and themselves as well
