Despite insistence, Nirmal didn't utter a word on AIIMS | Ekta Sangrash Committee function | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 17: A very significant development took place in Jammu on Wednesday. That day, one virtually unknown organization, Ekta Sangrash Committee (ESC), organized a function. Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Nirmal Singh was the chief guest. An insider revealed what happened during the meeting. He disclosed on the condition of anonymity that "the organizer of the function submitted to Nirmal Singh a charter of demands, which also included a request for the establishment of All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in Jammu, as the people of Jammu region do need such an institute". The insider told this correspondent that "the organizer of the function discussed with Nirmal Singh issues facing the people of Jammu region, including the problems being faced by the Displaced Persons from PoJK"; that "he repeatedly insisted that the Deputy Chief Minister must also speak about the issue of AIIMS that has attracted the attention of the people of Jammu region"; and that "the organizer of the function urged him to say something about the issue of AIIMS before Nirmal Singh rose to address the gathering". Not just this, the insider further informed that "when Nirmal Singh said that the 'setting up of IIT and IIM in Jammu would further accelerate the development of the city, besides providing the employment opportunities to the youth', the organizer of the function asked Nirmal Singh to also speak about the issue of AIIMS, but the Deputy Chief Minister remained mum, thus shocking not only the organizer of the function but also all those present during the event". Why did Nirmal Singh talk about IIT and IIM and refuses to speak about AIIMS overlooking the fact that it was he who himself on June 18 gave in writing to the members of the AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) that the BJP would meet the demand of the agitating people of Jammu region latest by July 20? His refusal to speak on the issue of AIIMS despite insistence did suggest that he had nothing to say on the issue the people of Jammu region under the banner of the ACC have been taking up in right earnest since May 21. Nirmal Singh, who has already been at the receiving end in Jammu for his outrageous statements and failure to deliver, would face public ire after July 20 in case an announcement to the effect that an AIIMS will be established in Jammu. It is pertinent to mention here that the people of Jammu region are extremely angry with Nirmal Singh for the two statements that he made after assuming office. One was that he on April 24, when the people of Jammu region observed a complete bandh on the issue of AIIMS, shamelessly decaled in Jammu that "there was no bandh in Jammu" and that "no one could snatch AIIMS from Kashmir and it will not be established in Jammu". The other was that "India is using the state land and state waters and that New Delhi must return the NHPC projects in Jammu & Kashmir to the state government".
