Jammu, Oct 11: Motivated to keep awareness drive on keeping heart healthy, Department of Cardiology of Government Medical College and Super-Specialty Hospital (GMCH&SSH)Jammu today reached out to the residents of Preetnagar locality in Nanak Nagar area of Jammu city. Led by Head Department of Cardiology Dr. Sushil K Sharma, a team of doctors, Paramedics and volunteers held a day long Cardiac Awareness Camp in a Gurudwara in Preetnagar locality of Nanak Nagar area. A long queue of patients was seen waiting eagerly to get their cardiac health checked. From getting their BP checked to Cholesterol tested, more than 200 patients were screened by the team of doctors for prevalence of cardiac diseases. Those who were found having high Blood Pressure, diabetes, problems with Heart Rate and some other symptoms of heart disease were prescribed medicines and told to keep an eye on their heart. The Paramedics, technicians and volunteers were seen enthusiastically taking part in the camp, checking the patients, advising them and guiding them about tests and other requirements. Medicines were distributed free of cost among those found having some symptoms of heart disease while others were told to advised to go for drastic lifestyle changes. They were told to walk for an hour, have fat free diet, take lot of green leafy vegetables, fruits besides reducing intake of Sugar and Salt. Doctors further told the cardiac patients to stop taking alcohol. During interaction with Patients, HoD Cardiology Dr. Sushil.K.Sharma advised them to make moderation, a norm for the rest of life. "Apart from what you have been told to stop eating; whatever else you eat, moderation should be the norm. Excess of everything is bad. And when it comes to cardiac health, moderation in food stuff that you eat along with regular walk and exercise keeps heart healthy," said Dr. Sushil.K.Sharma. He said "Lifestyle modification is key to living heart healthy life. This is in your hands." Dr. Sushil told the patients that stress is a giant killer. "Keep yourself stress free since stress increases your risk of suffering from cardiac disease more than anything else. Live happy. Make happiness part of your daily routine. Do not let unnecessary mental stress shorten your span of life," were the words which Dr. Sushil kept repeating while screening the patients. The camp concluded with management committee of Gurudwara Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji Preetnagar applauding Dr. Sushil and his team for having acceded to their request for holding a Cardiac Awareness Camp in their locality. President of management committee Devinder Singh Bali, Secretary Ranbir Singh Soodan alongwith Jatinder Singh Raina, Narvir Singh Raina, Ajit Singh and Satvir Singh Raina thanked the team of Cardiology department for holding the camp. They appreciated efforts of Dr. Sushil.K.Sharma for having taken up cardiac health awareness in a mission mode so that people are saved from this life threatening disease. Besides Head, Department of Cardiology, Government Medical College and Super-speciality Hospital (GMCH&SSH) Jammu Dr. Sushil K Sharma; the team of Doctors which was part of this camp included Dr. Nasir Choudhary, Dr. Dhaneshwar Kapoor, Dr. Anchit Singh and Dr. Anitipal Singh. Paramedics, technicians and volunteers who aided the team of doctors in their work included Kashmiri Lal, Kamal Kishore Sharma, Sanjay Sharma, Gaurav Sharma, Vikas Kumar, Harvinder Singh, Ranbir Singh, Mohan Krishan and Aman Gupta. |
