Notwithstanding huge expenditure, outcome of Assembly session 'worthless' | Writ of democratic institution was missing, feel ruling party leaders | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 11: Even as J&K Assembly's autumn session concluded on October 10 within the stipulated schedule, no worthwhile business was seen having been conducted during the week long proceedings that were marred mostly by ruckus and pandemonium on various issues. The writ of the highest temple of democracy was missing throughout, thanks to PDP-BJP alliance government which convened the session as a matter of constitutional obligation yet allowed the efficacy and deliverance of business on lowest ebb. These are the observations not of politicians from opposition parties but the leaders from within the ruling parties PDP and BJP who term the just concluded session of little worth and its outcome insignificant, rather of no value in terms of public welfare or law making , which is the prime business during the Assembly session. Sources within the two parties said entire rank and file including the legislators are disappointed the way proceedings went about during the last week and the developments that rocked intermittently. These developments further dented the already crumbling image of both the ruling partners, feel the BJP and PDP stalwarts. " The government spent huge amount to the tune of crores of rupees on this session…the expenditure was necessary given the constitutional requirement of convening the session after 6 months ….but people are disappointed at the outcome of the session which is virtually nothing", said a senior most PDP leader wishing not to be named. A couple of bills were passed but those were already in pipeline and this session only gave final touches to them, he said, adding that people in both the regions are distraught particularly for the reason that not a single issue concerning their plight and problems was taken up for discussion as the government failed to prevent or control the writ of the elements bent upon creating uproar and hijacking the precious time of the House, the PDP leader lamented. The hopes of the people were utterly belied during this session, he added. BJP leaders too are far from being satisfied on the just concluded Assembly session. "The Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is widely known for his respect and firm belief in the power of this institution which he often refers to ….but he too could not help retain its efficacy nor as the head of the state enabled any deliverance in terms of useful business", said a BJP legislator. From day one there was hotch potch in the system and proceedings moving in different directions, which could have been very well avoided by the ministers, he said, adding that on the contrary some elements including a couple of PDP ministers acted in a manner over certain developments which pushed the state to the brink of communalism. |
