Doctors rue mismanagement, patient care severely affected | Functioning of city hospitals in jeopardy | | K Koushal Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 11: Lack of foresight in division of responsibilities amongst doctors and para medical staff in city hospitals is seriously affecting patient care and resulting in frequent clashes between doctors and attendants of the patients. Doctors allege that consideration lack of foresight and compassion has stressed junior doctors who manage patient care in the hospitals to a larger extent was over stressing and over loading them, thus affecting their professional deliverance and patient care. Doctors said that the problem lies in the management, wherein the three tier working has not been streamlined. "There are three types of health workers in the hospital, which includes besides doctors, Nursing Orderlies (NO), multipurpose health workers (male/Female) and GNM/BSc Nursing. But here in Jammu hospitals, none of the three groups perform their duties according to laid norms," they said and added if these working groups are managed to work as per the manual, the working would be smooth and patient care shall improve tremendously. Giving instance, doctors said that in case of super specialty hospital, only eight departments, viz Nephro, Cardio, Urology, CTVS, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology and Endocrinology OPD are functioning, but due to lethargic and indifferent approach of the hospital superintendent, these eight departments are in complete mess. "The poor management on the part of hospital authorities has led to the mess in the hospital, wherein the health workers evade their assigned duties, thus putting extra burden on the doctors. The present state of working in the hospital shows lack of coordination and management," doctors said and added that even after prescribed uniforms, no health worker is seen in the hospital having full uniform and no one cares to direct them to follow line of order. |
