| BJP insults Jammu, says in power also because of Kashmir | | Politics of taunts | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 11: The BJP, which bartered social, economic and political rights of the people of Jammu region after February 2015 and sought to divide Jammu region into three religio-ethnic zones to facilitate the creation of Greater Muslim Kashmir, on Saturday insulted those who returned from the region 26 BJP members to the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The ungrateful BJP, instead of appreciating the people of Jammu region for the massive mandate that they gave to it in December 2014 hoping that the party would defend the Jammu cause and promote it further by undoing the past wrongs, ridiculed them, said that "people of Jammu & Kashmir have provided great opportunity to the BJP to come to power for first time in the State".
The statement, which humiliated and taunted the people of Jammu region, was made by none other than senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister in the PDP-led coalition G overnment Nirmal Singh. He made the statement after his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official 7-Race Course Road residence, New Delhi.
It was not the first occasion when the BJP leadership insulted and humiliated people of Jammu region. It showed thumb to them a number of times during the past 7 months and 10 days. A reference to just one instance in this regard would be quite in order. On April 24, when the people of Jammu region observed a complete bandh for forcing the anti-Jammu authorities to reverse the decision under which the sanctioned AIIMS for Jammu was shifted to Kashmir, Deputy Chief Minister taunted them by declaring that no power on earth could "snatch AIIMS from Kashmir and it will not be established". His statement proved that it had abandoned people of Jammu region to stay put in power at whatever cost. He had also maintained stoic silence when on May 15 the PDP leadership declared in Jammu in his presence that the AIIMS will be established in Kashmir and the ongoing Tawi Artificial Lake Project could be shelved for technical and financial reasons.
The claim of the "deceitful" BJP that the people of Kashmir also gave the BJP a great opportunity to come into power in the state was as untenable as it was despicable. Despicable because the BJP had forfeited security deposits in all but one Assembly constituencies in Kashmir where it fielded its candidates and the sole BJP candidate who could save his security deposit but failed to make it to the Assembly, got only a few hundred votes. The fact of the matter is that the BJP got about 50,000 votes from Kashmir, which returns 46 members to the Assembly. The BJP failed to win even a single seat from Kashmir despite the fact that the Prime Minister campaigned for the BJP candidates in the Valley, as also despite the fact that the BJP spent huge amount in its desperate bid to open its account in Kashmir.
It is claimed that the people of Kashmir came out to vote in large numbers to make the democratic exercise a great success. It is difficult to appreciate this claim. The reason is that all the Kashmir-based "mainstream" political parties, including PDP, NC, Congress and CPI-M, besides all the separatists, especially Syed Ali Shah Geelani, had urged the Kashmiri electorate to exercise its franchise on an unprecedented scale to ensure that the BJP failed to win even a single seat in the Valley. They had warned the Kashmiri electorate that the victory of the BJP even in a single constituency would defeat the Kashmiri movement and help the RSS implement its anti-Kashmir and anti-Muslim agenda in the Valley.
Not only the people of Kashmir, the people of Ladakh, who had voted for the BJP candidate and ensured his victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, rejected the BJP in the Assembly elections, held six months later. The BJP had fielded candidates in all the four Assembly constituencies, but failed to win even one, thus suggesting that the BJP had won the Lok Sabha seat by default. The victory margin was less than 40.
The truth is that the BJP has been in power in the State only because of the Jammu's support. It was disgusting that the BJP shamelessly denied the truth to further appease and please Kashmir which has been ruling the state since 1947 and exploiting the people of Jammu region and Ladakh to the hilt in collaboration with a handful of its Jammu-based agents. Everyone in Jammu knows who these agents are. |
