Mufti to invite Modi to Kashmir, finalize economic package
CM to meet PM next week

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 11: Eight months on since the formation of PDP-BJP alliance in the state on March 1, Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed is all set to visit New Delhi for a crucial meeting with Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Sources said Mufti will call on Modi next week somewhere close to weekend in the national capital to finalize announcement of much-awaited financial package for the state. It will be Mufti's first visit meeting with Modi after assuming charge as the Chief Minister. Mufti will formally invite Modi for a visit to Kashmir later this month. Sources said back channel talks have succeeded in making the central government agree to grant developmental package for the state, where floods last year unleashed havoc.
Sources said the central government has finalized Rs 70,000 crore package for the state. However, much against the expectations of PDP, financial package won't be "flood rehabilitation centric." "Most part of the package will be earmarked for infrastructure development, particularly upgradation of road and telecom connectivity while some funds will be for flood relief," sources said. "The major portion will be spent on infrastructure development particularly upgradation of telecom connectivity to 4G to bring J&K onto Digital India map whereas around Rs 10,000 crores will be rehabilitation component," said a source close to the Prime Minister's office who is in know of the matter. Sources said Mufti wants to get the rehabilitation component of the package increased and is likely to discuss it during the meeting. "Mufti wants Modi to understand the sensitivity of the situation and thus add to the rehabilitation component," said a PDP leader close to the Chief Minister.
He said Mufti has already got feelers from the Centre about its plans to grant economic package. "Mufti had been personally pursuing this case for the past two months and finally the hard work is about to bear fruits," he added.
But to make announcement about the package for Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti wants Modi to personally visit Kashmir. "PDP wants to cash the PMs visit for smooth functioning and stability of the government which is only possible if Modi visits Kashmir before the shifting of durbar move to Jammu," said a PDP leader adding "then only the next six months will be a smooth drive."
But Kashmir is not the only issue. Prime Minister is equally needed to keep aspirations of Jammu into consideration as the people there have just not been satisfied with the performance of the government in general and BJP in particular. None of the promises as were made to the people of Jammu during election rallies have been fulfilled. Instead Jammu, as per its people, has been a story of neglect where they have been deceived on multiple fronts.
Leave apart initiating any new projects, the government has miserably failed to meet deadline even on the ongoing infrastructure projects. The expansion of Jammu airport was slated to be completed in September, but the project has missed the deadline as the BJP ministers failed to hold timely review meetings.
On the other hand the work on artificial lake in Tawi has been slow while the development of AIIMS is nowhere in sight as even the land has yet not been identified for the much needed super specialty hospital in the province.
Mufti's proposed meeting with the Prime Minister comes close to Modi's meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh. Nirmal Singh on Saturday had a 45-minute meeting with the Prime Minister in the national capital where some crucial issues with regard to smooth functioning of the government were discussed.
