BJP's silence in LA over sacking of 2 law officers 'disappointing' | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 11: The BJP chose to remain silent in the Legislative Assembly's weeklong autumn session over the sacking of two law officers by the PDP minister. On September 22, Additional Advocate General Vishal Sharma and Deputy Advocate General Parimoksh Seth were sacked for "failing to articulate" the government's position against the High Court's September 9 order that directed the administration to strictly enforce the 1932 law that bans beef sale across the state. The BJP high command had intimated its state cadre to raise the issue of the sacked law officers and strive for their reinstatement. Ironically, BJP's 25 members in the Legislative Assembly didn't even issue a mere statement on the floor of the House. Sources told Early Times that some of the BJP activists disgruntled by their leadership have intimated the BJP head office in New Delhi about such a bizarre performance exhibited by the party in the Assembly despite being in the ruling camp. The BJP high command, sources said, has also reprimanded some BJP ministers after they condemned the thrashing of MLA Engineer Rashid by some party MLAs in the House after he hosted the beef party. The sacking order of the two law officers was issued by the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry Basharat Bukhari of the PDP. As the BJP prior to the commencement of the autumn session claimed to have been striving for the reinstatement of the two officers, its stoic silence in Assembly has surprised many in the state, with the people wondering whether the party really cares for peoples' sentiments. The BJP legislators and the ministers not even questioned Bukhari's statement which he made on September 29, saying that he would not reinstate the sacked officers at any cost. He said if there is pressure on him to recall the duo, he would "prefer to resign straightaway." Sources also revealed that the RSS has shot a letter to the BJP president Amit Shah, apprising him of the sorry state of affairs in the state BJP. "This, indeed, is unfortunate that the law officers, who have been sacked despite no fault and without any ground, have been left in lurch by the BJP. It vindicates that the party doesn't care about the masses who are becoming crimson about such a diluted stand," said a party leader. |
