Early Times Report

Srinagar Oct 11: The Ministry of Science and Technology in reply to AQ. No 376 of MLA Doda Shakti Raj Parihar stated that the department is planning to establish 300 MW solar power plant in the state during the current financial year, while during the year 2013 three projects were sanctioned under Independent Power Producer (IPP) mode with 100 MW capacity at Village Chhan Arorian Kathua, 5 MW at Logate More Kathua & 25 MW Meen Chadgan Samba, but due to non signing of power purchase agreement there was no headway in these three sanctioned solar projects.
In addition to above mentioned projects, JKEDA is also implementing the Remote Village Electrification (RVE) and Jawahar Lal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) programs in the state for which the government of India has accorded sanction to 44483 Solar Home Lighting System for Districts of Kishtwar (19039), Poonch (10707), Ramban (3785), Udhampur (2423), Reasi (1820), Kupwara (1300), Shopian (1200), Bandipora (1015), Rajouri (722), Kulgam (292) and Budgam (48), but due to delayed on part of JKEDA only 14477 Solar Home Lights were distributed so far that too only in Jammu province.
Meanwhile the people of Ishtyari and Machail of Padder sub division in Kishtwar rued District Administration for not distributing the Solar Lights to them despite the fact that the department of JKEDA summoned nearly 300 beneficiaries to Kishtwar including some widows for collecting these Solar Lights, but to their disappointment they have to return empty handed as administration stops the distribution of these lights on political intervention.
While talking to Early Times angry people informed that instead of providing the Solar light kits to the beneficiaries at door step, the officials of JKEDA asked them to come at District Headquarter for collection of Solar Lights, added that later the department changed the mind at last minute and refuse to handover the Solar lights to them.
"It took three days to us to reach Machail--- it is costly affair for we poor people--- this is not the first time when the officials of JKEDA make us fool" said a widower and urged upon the government to provide them the Solar Lights at door step.
MLC Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo also raise the issue in Legislative Council and asked the government to speed up the process of distribution of Solar Lights in Kishtwar District before the onset of winter.
