Handwara encounter: LeT militant killed, gun battle continues | | | S.Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report
Kupwara, Oct 11: One militant of LeT group has been neutralized by the security forces during the ongoing gun battle in Wader Bala forests of Handwara area in Kupwara district on Sunday. A senior police official told Early Times, "A fierce gun battle was on since the first contact was made between militants and security forces yesterday after a cordon cum search operation was launched in the target area after some inputs about movement of suspects. "A foreign militant has been killed in a brief gun battle in Wudarbala forests of Handwara," the official said, further adding that two militants are believed to be trapped as the security forces are closing in on them. Sharing details the Police official said that a joint team of Army's 21 RR, 6 RR, SOG and the local police have launched massive search operation in several villages of Rajwar belt connecting Hafhruda forests for last several days aftermath four army jawans were killed in an attack on October 5 in Tilpathri forest locality. "A search operation is going on in the forest and the identity of the militant is being established," official added. He said that huge warlike store has also been recovered from the forests, however the operation in the dense forest is still in progress till the last report came in. Pertinently, four army troopers of 6 RR were killed in an encounter at Tilpatren forests of Hafrudha area in Handwara Tehsil on October 5. When contacted, DIG NRK Garib Dass told Early Times that a contact between security forces and a group of 3-4 militants was established in Waderballa forests of Handwara area on Saturday evening. DIG said, "There was a fire on security forces which was promptly retaliated by security forces ensuing a fierce gun battle and during the ongoing encounter one militant of Laishker-e- Toiba (LeT) was killed while the search operation is on. "The identity of the militant was not ascertained yet, but according to our investigations that the killed militant is belonged to Lashkar-e Toiba (LeT) group of Pakistan, and the body has been handed over to the Auqaf Committee for last rites, DIG added. "Security forces have extended their cordon, search operation has been intensified and the operation is still going on, said DIG Mr Dass. |
