Following 'interference' of MLC, five employees of MC Sumbal get transferred | ULBEUF holds protests, demands roll-back of transfer order | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 17: There seems to be no end to political 'interference' in the functioning of local bodies in the Kashmir valley and in a fresh case a legislator few days back ordered for the transfer of five employees from North Kashmir to different areas. Sources told Early Times that few days back five employees of Municipal Committee, Sumbal were transferred to the different municipalities in the valley. The employees transferred are Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, Mohammad Akram Shah, Parvez Ahmad Ganie, Aftab Ahmad and Mehraj-ud-din. "Muzaffar was the President of Sumbal unit of Urban Local Bodies Employees United Forum (ULBEUF) and it was due to this reason that he got transferred. The other employees are also associated with the ULBEUF and they were transferred only due to the political victimization. The MLC intervened in the matter and ensured that these employees are transferred," said sources. Sources said that some employees at Municipal Committee, Sumbal and Municipal Committee, Hajin who have withdrawn arrears under the sixth pay commission and resorted to embezzlement as well have not been touched. No action whatsoever has been taken against them and they continue to discharge their duties at Municipal Committee, Sumbal with nobody among them being transferred. "The employees transferred have been sent to municipalities at Baramulla, Beerwah, Magam and Pattan. This is a clear case of political victimization and so far no corrective action has been taken. The political intervention has virtually decimated the local bodies department and the worst part is that there is no full-fledged Director of Urban Local Bodies Kashmir," said sources. Taking a strong note of the political 'victimization' at Municipal Committee, Sumbal, the ULBEUF carried out a strong protest against the transfer of its office bearers without any rhyme or reason. The protesting employees of urban local bodies department were led by Manzoor Ahmad Pampori, Chairman ULBEUF. The protesters assembled at the office of Municipal Committee, Sumbal and raised strong protest against the political interference in the functioning of the department. The protesters demanded immediate roll-back of the transfer of the five employees and said that if this is not done then the situation may take an ugly turn. From the office of Municipal Committee, Sumbal the protesters marched towards the main road connecting Srinagar with Bandipora. Pampori addressed the protesters on the main road and took a dig at the politicians who are 'interfering' in the affairs of the department. He said the government is turning a blind eye towards the genuine problems of employees of urban local bodies department adding that there is total apathy from the people at helm. "On one side the chief minister says that elections would be held for the local bodies, but on the other side there is no Director for 42 urban local bodies of Kashmir. The charge has been assigned to Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development department. He is least bothered about the functioning of the local bodies and same holds true with the concerned minister Dr. Nirmal Singh," said Chairman ULBEUF. |
