Jammu, Oct 17: In today's age of social media, it doesn't take much effort for BJP to get something trend, especially when the message being conveyed is pic oriented and more of a promotional strategy of activities and functioning of the government. Most of the ministers in PDP-BJP alliance, more so from the BJP camp are social media savvy busy in publicising everything little knowing this trend is doing more harm than any good to their own image and to that of the party.
Photoshots on the face book and Whatsapp of many ministers including that of the Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh may have become a fad with them and a necessary part of their lives, but more often than not these bring wrong perceptions, thereby hitting their profile and eventually denting the image of the party as well. As they are focussing and diverting their energies on social media for the sake of publicity and popularity among a wider audience on these platforms, this strategy is only proving to be counterproductive, said insiders in the party.
Sources said as these ministers find it easy and accessible medium , powerful and having wider reach than the conventional media, they use it to the hilt for not just making show of their routine activities but also about the policies, programmes and the stand of the party on various key, controversial issues. This is however bouncing as contrary to their expectations, on many occasions they have received negative comments on these posts from the common masses. These negative comments to BJP's ministers are not only coming in loads from social media users in Kashmir Valley, much to their disgust and surprise these have lately been pouring in from Jammu people as well, sources said.
The negative comments are coming mostly from the youth who do not shy away from writing boldly against the party and the ministers too, sources said adding that this trend only reflects that people want BJP to mend ways or face resentment like this from different quarters.
On certain occasions abuses and wild accusations have come in loads not only for the ministers but the MLAs too, besides on the functioning of the alliance government too. This has often resulted in war of words between some supporters and opponents , contrary to words of appreciation or applaud which the ministers are desirous of while using the social media. As the youth continue toe express venom and negative comments against the party and ministers, it is time for them to think twice in publicising events on the social media and comprehend this message well that if power of publicity lies with them, there comes the responsibility first to deliver to people's expectations. |
