Court awards two years RI in accident case | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 17: Principal Sessions Judge Udhampur R S Jain today upheld the imprisonment of two years Rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fine Rs 2000/- to Jasbir Singh a bus driver. The appellant has filed appeal, which was today dismissed by the Principal Sessions Judge Udhampur and sent the accused to District Jail Udhampur for serving the punishment. According to the prosecution on 15/7/2010, appellant while driving passenger bus No. JK02AF/5361 in rash and negligent manner lost control over the bus at AmrohaMorh, Padraka resulting it to roll down in deep gorge wherein number of passengers sustained grievous and simple injuries and a passenger Savitri Devi succumbed to her injuries. Later after completion of investigation challan was presented and trial Court convicting the appellant and sentenced him to undergo imprisonment for a period of 2 years and fine of Rs.2000/- for the offence under Section 304-A RPC; undergo imprisonment for a period of six months and fine of Rs.1000/- for the offence under Section 338 RPC; undergo imprisonment for a period of one month and fine of Rs. 500/- for the offence under Section 337 RPC and undergo imprisonment for a period of 2 months and fine of Rs.1000/- for the offence under Section 279. In case of default in payment of fine he shall further undergo simple imprisonment for two months. (JNF) |
