6 women among 14 dead in Udhampur accident, 17 injured | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur Oct 20: At least 14 people were killed and 17 others sustained injuries in Ghordi a remote village of Ramnagar today when the mini-bus they were travelling in fell into a gorge in an accident in Udhampur district. Meanwhile the state government has sanctioned ex gratia of Rs 1 Lakh each to the next kin of dead and Rs 5000/- each to the injured in accident. According to official spokesperson, the fourteen persons were killed and seventeen (17) injured at Dalsar near Ramnagar when a mini bus on way from Ghordi to Ramnagar met with an accident this morning at around 0820Hrs. "The 24 seater 6-tyre mini-bus was carrying 31 persons including the drive and cleaner and the driver of ill fated bus JK14-C 8068 lost control over the vehicle reportedly while over speeding resulting it to skid off the road and plunged into deep gorge, official added. Official spokesperson said, "Seven out of 17 injured are reported to be critical while three persons have been admitted in the Military Hospital, one was referred to Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu and rest 13 are under treatment in District Hospital (DH) Udhampur. "Soon after receipt of information regarding the accident a coordinated rescue operation was launched and more than 14 persons were evacuated from the trapped vehicle, he said, adding, ". Eight ambulances, rescue teams and cranes were rushed to spot." "A group of around 50 local youth helped in rescue operation resulting into saving many lives, he added. Official said that Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, DIG Udhampur-Reasi Surinder Kumar Gupta along with SSP Suleiman Choudhary, CMO Dr Chander Parkash, ARTO Rajesh Gupta and DySP Traffic rushed to the spot and monitored the rescue operation. Quoting an eye witnesses, the official added, "The driver was reportedly speaking on mobile phone while he lost the control on over speeding to pick passengers as another bus was following it. Meanwhile he maintained that the coordinated efforts of district administration ensured prompt rescue and recovery operation and immediate treatment at Ramnagar Hospital followed by District Hospital and referral of 4 to Military Hospital and GMC Jammu. "The hospitals and emergency services were kept on high alert for prompt response and treatment, he added. According to official the deceased including six women have been identified namely as Ajay Kumar S/O Nek Ram R/O Surni, Khem Raj S/O Tej Ram R/O Nallaha Gorrian, Sapana Devi D/O Sudesh Kumar R/O Plassian, Surjoo Devi W/O Tulsi Das R/O Dalsar, Bindoo Ram S/O Chinku R/O Jandhore, Neshi W/O Shakti R/O Kanah, Ragbir Singh S/O Shaju Singh R/O Jandhore, Ashok Kumar S/O Chait Ram R/O Ghordi, Ganesh Dutt S/O Amar Dutt R/O Nallaha Mallian, Sushma Devi D/O Attar Chand R/O Jandhore, Shailo Devi W/O Kartar Chand R/O Kanah, Santi Devi W/O Prem Singh R/O Massal, Mulkh Raj R/o Nallaha Gorrian and Subash Kumar S/O Bittu Ram R/O Kanah, Ramnagar. Meanwhile the injured being hospitalized at different hospitals have been identified as Polli Devi W/O Vijay Kumar R/O Nallaha Mallian, Geeta Devi W/O Ganesh R/o Nallaha Mallian, Bal Krishan S/O Mast Ram R/O Sunetar Nikhal S/O Subash Chand R/O Ghordi, Yash Paul S/O Lofi Ram, R/O Nallaha Mallian Pooja Devi D/O Khem Raj R/O Kannah, Raksha Devi W/O Pritam Singh R/O Jandhore, Dharmu Devi W/O Suram Chand R/O Birnoo, Roshan Kumar S/o Thakur Das R/O Kannah, Sudesh, Kumar S/O Charan Das R/O Ghordi Khas, Pinky Devi W/O Govind Ram Singh R/O Nallaha Mallian, Monika D/O Dina Nath R/o Chowki, Mulkh Raj S/O Punu Ram R/O Ghordi, Chait Ram S/o Badri Nath R/O Dalsar, Dharam Chand S/O Suram Chand R/O Birnoo, Shubham S/O Sanjay Kumar R/O Ghordi and Jeet Kumar S/O Mulakh Raj R/O Jagir Ghordi. Official spokesperson said that on the directions of Government, the Distinct Administration provided relief of Rs 1 Lakh each to the next kin of dead and injured in accident and instantly distributed Rs 14 Lakh to Next of Kin (NoK) of dead and Rs 90,000 to injured @ Rs 5000 each and Rs 10,000 to one patient shifted to Jammu. DC Udhampur Dr Shahid provided cheques of relief to Tehsildar Ramnagar which were handed over to the aggrieved families. Meanwhile an FIR has also been lodged at Ramnagar police station for investigation in the matter. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed expressed grief over the death of several passengers in the accident and wished speedy recovery to the injured. In his condolence message, the Chief Minister conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families in their hour of grief, an official spokesman said. He said Sayeed also wished speedy recovery to those who were injured in the accident. Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh has expressed grief over the death of several passengers who died in road accident at Dalsar near Ramnagar in Udhampur district today. In a condolence message, the Deputy Chief Minister conveyed sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul. He also hoped that the injured would recover soon. Dr. Singh further directed the authorities to provide every possible medical assistance to the injured, so that they can recuperate as early as possible. Sr Congress leader and MLC Yugal Kishore Sharma expressed grief and shock over the death of several passengers in road accident at Dalsar near Ramnagar in Udhampur district today. In his condolence message, MLC Yugal Kishore Sharma conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed Almighty to grant them courage to bear irreparable loss. He also wished speedy recovery to the injured. He however urged the government and concerned authorities to provide every possible medical assistance to the injured. Meantime Minister of Transport Abdul Gani Kohli has expressed grief over the death of several passengers who died in road accident at Dalsar near Ramnagar in Udhampur district today. In a condolence message, the transport minister conveying his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families prayed for peace to the departed souls. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. |
