Pak has no work except raise Kashmir issue | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 20: As it is faced with the constipation of ideas, policies and ways to take it on the path of development, Pakistan government is left with the only work of keep on raising the Kashmir issue. Its High Commissioner to India, Abdul Basit on Tuesday yet again provoked New Delhi, saying Islamabad recognises Hurriyat activists only and not the elected representatives of Kashmir as the its true representatives. "Hurriyat leaders are the true representatives," his office said, adding that Pakistan would always want to discuss the Kashmiri situation with Hurriyat leaders. What authority has Pakistan got to accept or reject elected Kashmir representatives? Who are these Hurriyat leaders? Who do they represent? What is their locus standi? These half a dozen Hurriyat leaders do not represent the people of the state. They represent a microscopic minority and have their support-base confined to a few pockets in the Valley, especially Srinagar City and its localities like Hyderpora, parts of Jamia Masjid area and parts of Maisuma locality. They represent that school of thought that led to the persecution of the miniscule minority of Kashmiri Hindus in Kashmir and its resultant exodus in early 1990. They only exploit the religious sentiments of the common gullible Kashmiris. They only make mountains out of molehills to arouse anti-India passions in the Valley and remain in the news. The Hurriyat leaders, who otherwise hate each other and struggle to establish their domination over the anti-India movement in the valley, have no say whatsoever in Jammu and Ladakh regions, which constitute more than 88 per cent of the state's land area and are inhabited by more than half the state's population. Even in the Jammu province areas where the Muslims are somewhat more as compared to the non-Muslims, they have no say. The reason is that there is historical antagonism between the Muslims of Kashmir and Muslims of Jammu province. A study of the social composition of the secessionism in the valley shows that the followers of all the religious sects, barring those who have been at the helm of affairs since October 1947 and who control all the "mainstream", separatist and religious organizations and Kashmiri civil society groups, have nothing to do with Pakistan or the anti-India movement in the Valley. It also shows that New Delhi has never ever patted the anti-movement forces in the valley, as also in Jammu province and Ladakh region. When will New Delhi appreciate these realities, call the Hurriyat's bluff and show Pakistan and its High Commissioner to India their rightful place? It is New Delhi which has utterly failed to present an accurate picture of facts before the world bodies and the result is that Pakistan has been taking advantage of its weak policy towards Islamabad and interfering in the India's internal affairs in a most brazen manner and the Huriyat leaders have been enacting anti-India acts and going scot-free. This policy will not work. The Narendra Modi government has to act tough and establish by its words and deeds that Kashmir is an integral part of India and that anyone challenging the political status of J&K shall be charged with committing an act of sedition against the Indian state. For how long will New Delhi allow Pakistan to interfere in India's internal affairs and Hurriyat leaders to bloody and convulse the state's political scene? |
