R&B Minister blames DyCM, ex-SMC Commissioners for mess in Srinagar | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 20: J&K Roads and Buildings Minister and senior PDP leader Altaf Bukhari on Tuesday admitted that he has failed to come up to the expectations of the people of Srinagar in general and his Amira Kadal constituency in particular. "Mein abhi tak nakaam raha hun aur mein apni nakami manta hun (Till now I have failed and I accept my failure)," Bukhari said in an interview on a radio program here when asked about poor drainage and bad condition of the roads in the summer capital of the State. He, however, blamed it on the Housing Ministry led by Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and previous Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioners who he said "punished the people of Srinagar". "The public grievances (with regard to drainage) are genuine, though they should have been sorted out on priority. Unfortunately, the Ministry is not with me and the one who heads the Housing Ministry doesn't realize the gravity of the problem. Hope he is listening to this," Bukhari said. He then trained his guns at the previous SMC Commissioners Dr GN Qasba and Tufail Mattu who were transferred within first four months of the PDP Government. Bukhari said the previous SMC Commissioners had some kind of animosity with the people of Srinagar that they punished them for unknown reasons during their tenures. Bukhari, however, was all praise for the present SMC Commissioner Showkat Zargar and termed him as "most wise, competent and an upright officer." |
