SI Altaf Ahmed's killing: Authorities yet to indentify moles in Police department | | | Early Times Report jammu, Oct 20: Nearly two weeks have been passed but higher ups in the police have failed to identify moles in the departments who were responsible for the killing of Kashmir's top counter-terror cop Sub-Inspector Altaf Ahmed, who was killed by terrorists from point blank range in Bandipore area some days back. Credible sources in the Police Department revealed that Altaf Ahmed, popularly known as "Altaf Laptop" was killed due to leakage of information of his movement. Most of the terrorist groups in Kashmir Valley were looking for an opportunity to kill Altaf Ahmed because he was frustrating their designs, sources said and revealed that some black-sheep in the Police Department leaked information about movement of Altaf Ahmed. "It was all due to leakage of information by some moles in the Police Department that terrorists managed to kill Altaf Ahmed from the point blank range", sources said and added that terrorists had very specific and authenticate information and it was all due to this information that they (terrorists) managed kill the brave cop so easily. "How terrorists managed to target only Altaf Ahmed?", this is a million dollar question. Altaf Ahmed, along with two colleagues, was on a covert mission in Bandipore to track down Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Abu Qasim on October 8 but information about mission was leaked so terrorists managed to kill him. Qasim, a Pakistani terrorist, was the mastermind behind the terror attack on a Border Security Force convoy in Udhampur on August 5 according to the National Intelligence Agency. Before Altaf could reach the target, police said the terrorist hiding behind a passenger vehicle opened fire on him. He was critically injured and was immediately airlifted to an Army hospital where he was declared brought dead. Altaf was considered a key operative in the security forces' counter insurgency grid and his death is seen as huge blow to anti-terrorist activities in Kashmir. Altaf who joined the department as a constable rose from the ranks and was known as police's 'cyber boy' who made promising headways into bringing down terrorist networks, officers who knew him, said. Altaf came to prominence after he mastered the art of tracking militants through mobile phones. He captured several top terrorist commanders and helped security forces carry out a number of anti-terrorist operations in the last 10 years. Altaf was the recipient of President's police medal for gallantry and several other bravery awards. A resident of Kulgam in South Kashmir, Altaf is survived by his wife and two children. |
