Waving of Pak flags during mourning or merrymaking new trend in Kashmir
10/21/2015 12:12:03 AM
There is one thing typical about people
in the Kashmir valley. And this trend,
which defines people in the Kashmir valley, has started catching up even those who wish to remain on the fence without joining the politics of separatists or of the mainstream political parties. Whether it is mourning over the loss of a precious life or if it is a moment for jubilation sections of people, of late, have begun cherishing displaying Pakistani flags or even the ISIS flags. Yes, one could justify waving of Pakistani flags or the ISIS flags during political rallies or conventions. But what is the rationale behind waving of Pakistani flags when people, thousands of people, had gathered during the burial ceremony of one Zahid who sustained serious injuries in a petrol bomb attack on the Jammu-Srinagar highway recently. This is one trend.
The other is the way opposition leaders and separatists keep on berating the Government for laxity or for whatever they wish to criticize the Government. This is what happened when Zahid succumbed to his injuries in a premier hospital in New Delhi.
The hardest criticism has come from former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, who wanted to know whether Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will blame the PDP led coalition Government for Zahid's killing? Omar wanted to know the reaction from Modi because the Prime Minister had held the Akhilesh Yadav led Government in UP responsible for the Dadri incident where a Muslim was lynched. For the first time the coalition Government has shown that it wants business and not interested in playing politics over the body of an innocent trucker.; The Cabinet, at its meeting in Srinagar on Monday, passed in one voice a resolution moved by the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, to express deep shock and grief over the tragic death of Zahid Bhat, who succumbed to his injuries sustained after he was set afire in an attack in Udhampur on October 9.Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, the Cabinet observed a two-minute silence in memory of the departed soul. The Cabinet also approved ex-gratia relief of Rs.5 lakh and Rs. 2 lakh and government jobs in favour of the next of Kin of Zahid Rashool Bhat and Showkat Ahmad Dar, who is undergoing treatment in the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. It is for the first time the State cabinet has adopted a resolution expressing grief over the death of a trucker, who does not happen to be a politician or a big business man. Credit must be given to the coalition Government that the security agencies, including the police, swung into action and have, so far, arrested nine people for the attack on Zahind and Showkat Ahmed Dar, and seven may be detained under the Public Safety Act. Well Omar Abdullah needs to be reminded that the attackers did not belong to either the BJP or to the PDP and hence blaming the coalition Government could be an exercise in futility.
Again in such a situation the opposition is supposed to behave in a responsible way. And this responsible behavior has been displayed by senior Congress leader, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and President of the National Conference, Dr Farooq Abdullah. Who expressed grief and sorrow over Zahid's killing. A senior separatist leader, Shabir Ahmed Shah, has urged Mufti Sayeed to resign following the attack on the truckers at Udhampur. Will his resignation solve the problem? Have former Chief Ministers resigned whenever killings of innocent people took place? Never. Yes, it was the duty of the separatists to call for a complete shutdown. It was the job of people to respond to such a call because an innocent person had lost his life. It was duty of the Government to place senior separatists under house arrest simply to prevent them from inciting people to violence. Each side has done its job. Then what was the rationale behind waving of Pakistani flags during the funeral ceremony of Zahid? Nothing special but it may have helped people to rationalize their frustration.
