SMVDU'S Architecture faculty present research paper in Italy | | | Jammu, Oct 20 : IEREK- an international institution organized Urban Planning and Architecture Design for Sustainable Development International Conference, to exchange a better understanding of the sustainable development between social and economic development with the environmental resources. The conference was scheduled between 14th to 16th October, 2015 at the historic University of Salento. Lecce - Italy, located along southern coast of Italy. More than 100 Research professionals, resource personals & students, mostly Architects & urban Planners belonging to different countries participated. Ar. Anoop Sharma, Astt. Prof. in Architecture, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University was the alone candidate from India who presented his research in the prestigious Conference. He presented his research on the Topic "Revitalizing the urban development scenario of Contemporary Town" with the emphasis on the Katra town of Jammu & Kashmir. In his paper, he highlighted with case studies, the major problems being faced by Tourism (pilgrimage) oriented towns like Katra in terms of its urban infrastructure, legible urban open spaces & the quality of Life. He further emphasised the redevelopment of such towns based on identified pilgrimage hub based on pedestrian traffic & human scale coupled with decentralization in amenities such that threshold limit in terms of carrying capacity of such towns could be solved. Further, ground level development plan for surrounding tourism potential areas ought to be considered as well so as to decentralize the crowded hub without losing upon the economic benefits out of the pilgrimage tourism. He supplemented his idea with the help of successful urban models of 19th & 20th century. |
