Dandiya, Garba dances mark Gandhi Nagar Navratra Festival | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 20 : Thrilling and colorful non-stop Dandiya and Garba dances marked the celebration of seventh Navratra in the premises of Lakshmi Narayan temple, Gandhi Nagar here last evening. The two-hour sparkling vibrant evening was organized as part of the Navratra Festival being organized by Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple Management Trust. Navratra not only symbolizes the victory of good over evil (Goddess Durga's victory over Mahishasur) but also celebrates the spirit of Indian culture in its togetherness. Garba and Dandiya are believed to be the dramatization of the fight between the Goddess and the mighty demon king. The sticks of the Dandiya dance represent the sword of Goddess Durga. Garba and Dandiya, are dance forms which were earlier performed only in Gujarat, but now these have become very popular everywhere. These dances were performed before the temple of Goddess Durga in the complex in view of inclement weather. The lively evening was witnessed by a large gathering including the President of the Trust Shri Gulchain Singh Charak, other Trustees, President of Jammu Chamber of Commerce, Rakesh Gupta. Dignitaries present in function lauded the role of the trust and efforts of Uma Katal for making the occasion colourful. |
