Gender sensitization programme on Sexual Harassment at Workplace held 10/21/2015 12:54:18 AM JAMMU, Oct 20 : A Gender sensitization programme on the topic "Sexual Harassment at Workplace" was organized by Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies (SSGCWS) for the staff members and the students of MIER. Dr Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academics University of Jammu was the resource person for the programme. Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER presided over the function. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Annie Koul, HOD B.Ed wing, Dr. B.L. Raina, HOD M.Ed wing, Dr. Rohnika Sharma, HOD B.ED Spl. Edu., Dr. P.L. Koul, OSD, Ms. Harika Singh, Inclusive School MIER and Dr. Chitra Misra, Principal Model Academy School. Faculty members and non-teaching staff of all the Departments of MIER attended the programme. At the commencement of the programme a wall magazine based on the theme "Sexual Harassment at Workplace" was inaugurated by the resource person. Dr. Renu Gupta extended a formal welcome to Dr. Poonam Dhawan as well as other participants. She introduced the resource person as a woman of substance with a gifted and multifaceted personality who is deeply involved in the process of women empowerment. Dr. Gupta said that sexual harassment could be anything at workplace that can place women at disadvantage position at work, which includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. She emphasized that a recent legislative act in India to encounter sexual harassment of women rests on the premise of gender equality. Dr. Gupta informed the audience that a Committee Against sexual harassment (CASH) under the guidelines of UGC has been constituted in the college. In her address Dr Poonam Dhawan dwelled upon the concept of harassment and said that harassment does not have to be of a sexual nature, it can include offensive remarks about a person's sex.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
