JKGCWF demands immediate implementation of HC direction | 'No benefit of reservation in promotions' | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 20: Stating that the political parties who do not want to let reservation go are only concerned about losing their vote base Jammu and Kashmir General Category Welfare forum (JKGCWF) has demanded an immediate implementation of landmark judgment by the State High Court on "no benefit of reservation in promotions" in Jammu and Kashmir. President JKGCWF, Syed Shameem Ahmad while talking to early times said that, by loosing this powerful policy frame-work, politicians opposing this significant judgement, might lose their vote base in their respective constituencies. He said that the agenda of casteism should be replaced by the agenda of development which is basically the requirement of the day in this downtrodden state. "The first and foremost requirement for Jammu and Kashmir is to educate its people and make them focus on merit rather than using crèches of reservation to excel in their life," he said, adding that J&K High Court, judgment that there shall be no benefit of reservation in promotions in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and also terming Section 6 of Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act 2004, and Rules 9, 10 and 34 Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Rules 2005 as ultra vires is a historic judgment which needs to be implemented in letter and spirit. The president JKGCWF observed that the motive with which the reservation rules were set after independence for a period of ten years unfortunately didn't complete its period till date. "These rules were made with the belief that underprivileged in the country will be benefited till they improve their standards of living. But one fails to understand that despite most of these so called "underprivileged" sections doing good in every sphere of life and their children studying in best schools of the country, why the government is enforcing these archaic rules that have fulfilled their objectives and are now irrelevant," he asked. The President said that time has come to discard reservation policy and start a new Jammu and Kashmir with a new vision. "It is time to provide quality education to our children in the state and provide them avenues as per their abilities so that they are no more dependent on any support system in the modern day competitive world," Syed Shameem remarked, while pledging to continue struggle against category system in the state. However the president urged the minister for law and parliamentary affairs to take a call on the above mentioned landmark judgment of the High Court and implement the same in letter and spirit in the state. "We hope and expect that the law minister of the state won't get swayed by the partisan political interests of some MLAs who want reservations to continue for their petty political interests. The state government is also expected to allow merit to prevail than reservations which are against the interests of the state, President added. |
