Srinagar, Oct 23: The Division Bench of J&K High Court Srinagar Wing today has prohibited the entry of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) during the peak hours at Pantha Chowk Srinagar on all working days. A division bench of the court headed by Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar said, "Till further orders, the entry of heavy good vehicles in and around the Pantha Chowk area is prohibited during the peak hours i.e. between 09:00 to 11:00 am in the morning and 04:00 to 06:00 pm in the evening on all working days." The court directions followed perusal of a status report by the court, stating therein that till the completion of widening of Pantha chowk stretch, a temporary arrangement to the extent of banning the entry of all heavy goods vehicles including tippers, trucks, dozers, heavy load carriers engaged specifically in quarrying and carrying of stones, cement, construction material and the carriage of cement from the nearby cement factories, between peak rush hour is in place. However, amicus curie submitted that the authorities continue to permit the entry of the vehicles and urged the court to order a prohibition of the heavy vehicles during the peak hours. |
