Governor snubs PSC Chairman over selection of interview experts
10/24/2015 12:34:23 AM

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 23: Governor NN Vohra is learnt to have snubbed Jammu Kashmir Public Service Commission Chairman, Lateef-us Zaman Deva over selection of experts for the interviews of Medical Education Teachers in the State Government Medical Colleges.
According to the highly placed sources, Governor NN Vohra took cognizance of inviting interview experts only from a particular institution and sought a clarification from PSC in this regard to allay the alleged misconceptions over the issue.
Even as the PSC sought to give some flimsy reasons behind inviting experts from a particular institution, sources said that the Governor rejected such claims and strongly reprimanded the Chairman. The PSC Chairman Deva claimed that experts from other institutions of repute were not willing to come for interviewing the candidates and therefore the Commission had no option other than to invite the lot from a particular University in Uttar Pradesh, sources said.
However, the Governor rejected this plea of the PSC Chairman and purportedly listed the names of more than half a dozen reputed institutions across the country, from where the experts could have been invited for the interview for prestigious positions as Medical Education Teachers. In more embarrassment to Mr Deva, sources added, the Governor also sought to know whether any one of the institutes, listed by him, was ever contacted by the PSC for the purpose. As Deva had no answer to this question, the Governor asked the PSC to be impartial and transparent for avoiding un-necessary controversies, sources added.
Sources said that the Governor pulled the PSC following some complaints that the experts for conducting interviews were being invited from a particular institution to influence the selection of candidates. Though there was no specific complaint of favouritism, sources said that the Governor preferred to intervene timely so that integrity of the Public Service Commissioner may not be challenged.
