Why did Beigh, Karra stay away from party meeting? PDP to introspect
10/24/2015 12:36:54 AM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 23: After two of its founding members and MPs, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh and Tariq Hamid Karra recently skipped an 'important' meeting of the PDP which was chaired by party president Mehbooba Mufti, its leadership has started looking for reasons for the apparent cracks in the 17-year-old party.
It is believed that differences have been caused due to dubious role played by some government officials, who in the garb of being PDP loyalists have proved black sheep working at the behest of a coterie of ministers.
While Mehbooba and her father, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed recently conveyed to the party cadres that their relation with the BJP was strong enough for smooth functioning of the government, there's no let up in controversial statements from Karra.
Though Karra and Beigh are among the stalwarts who strengthened PDP from grass-root level to highest quarters and have a huge following in the public circles, for the last one year the duo has been seldom consulted in decision-making by the party.
Sources said both Karra and Beigh believe that at-least three PDP ministers, all of whom happen to be new to politics, have been resorting to cheap tactics to be in the good books of the party high command.
"The three ministers have been using some government officials, who claim to be PDP loyalists, as pawns to create distrust," said a party insider.
"Their first target remained Beg who was tactfully removed from decision making last year by creating misunderstanding," he said.
Sources said the second target of this lobby remained Karra who again was systemically sidelined by the same lobby of government officials claiming to be PDP loyalists. "This group of officers are being tactfully used by the trio to meet their nefarious designs," said sources.
They said the group of three has already got such officials promoted illegally as a mark of reward for their services. "In fact the group wanted to elevate such officials in the Chief Minister's Secretariat, so they would be privy to all developments taking place there, but given their dubious track record of leaking information among various party groups, such officials were tactfully kept away from PDP top brass by the high command," the insiders said.
"The group of three ministers is also using the group of officials as agents for transfers and allowing illegal constructions, particularly in Srinagar, in lieu of huge kickbacks," said sources.
They said the PDP president was recently given hint by some well-wishers to keep a watchful eye on the working of all its ministers and not to consider any of them absolutely honest, no matter how rich he could be.
"The only reason was to convey to the party high command that all is not well and that she should put to scrutiny role of all the cadres so that the party is saved from any disaster," the sources said.
